hand needle felted painting

A solitary tree in a field of heather at sunset. Many shades of wool batt and roving were used to create the color blends. Framed in a 12" hoop, it is ready to hang, and is covered on the back with black felt.
Needle felting is a totally dry process in which loose, dyed wool fibers are repeatedly stabbed into a background using special small barbed needles. The constant movement tangles the fibers firmly into position. Framed without glass to enhance the texture, it requires no special care -- simply an occasional flick of a microfiber duster.
